Implant Supported Dentures

Stable and Lifelike Full-Arch Replacement Teeth

DenturesDentures have long been the conventional solution for replacing a full arch of missing teeth, and until recently were the only option available. Although they have greatly improved in quality and function over the years, they still have numerous disadvantages which make them a last-resort replacement option.

Dentures continually make noises or slip when you speak or eat, and chewing can be painful due to the dentures rubbing against your gums and causing sores. Additionally, dentures only provide about 10 to 15 percent of the chewing power of natural teeth, making it difficult or impossible to eat all the foods you want and need for proper nutrition.

Dentures accelerate the bone loss in the jaw that occurs naturally when teeth are missing. This eventually causes the lower third of your face to get a “collapsed” look. Progressive bone loss also causes dentures to repeatedly lose their fit, so that they have to be relined or replaced. This can get to a point where no denture can be made to fit well anymore.

Implant-supported dentures restore stability and chewing power

Modern technology has made it possible to eliminate these liabilities by placing implants to support a denture and give it a stable foundation. Dentures resting on implants are held securely in position and their chewing power is greatly increased. Depending on your needs, the dentures can be permanently fixed onto the implants, or made so they are able to snap onto the implants and can be removed by you at any time.

Preparation For Your New Teeth

High-tech imaging for precise diagnostics

Implant-Supported Dentures

Digital panoramic X-rays provide valuable information for planning your treatment.

First, we will take a digital panoramic X-ray of your entire mouth and jaw area. The detailed information in the X-ray allows Dr. Anzalone to determine what options you are a candidate for, and how many implants will be necessary to support new teeth. When necessary, we will arrange for you to additionally receive a dental 3D CT scan at a nearby facility.

Consultation with the doctor

Dr. Anzalone will talk with you in detail about the options that are available to you. He will thoroughly explain the benefits of each one and will answer all of your questions so you can make a well-informed decision about your treatment.

Detailed planning

Dr. Anzalone will create a detailed treatment plan prior to your procedure, determining the exact position and angle of each implant. For complex cases, he will use special 3D software to virtually simulate the surgery, and he will create surgical guide so that the actual placement procedure is accurate and efficient.

Expert bone grafting

In cases where there is insufficient bone for the implants to be properly supported, Dr. Anzalone can perform the necessary bone grafting using modern, minimally invasive techniques.

Surgical guides for accurate, efficient placement

Surgical Guide for Dental ImplantsFor complex cases, Dr. Anzalone creates a state-of-the-art surgical guide to aid in accurate placement of the implants. A surgical guide is a template that fits over your dental arch and marks exactly where and at what angle the implants should be inserted. Use of a guide also makes the procedure faster.

Our Full-Arch Tooth Replacement Options

Following are the options we provide for full-arch tooth replacement:

Permanently fixed-in new teeth

Dr. Anzalone will place a series of implants to support a full-arch set of replacement teeth that are firmly fixed-in and can only be removed by a dentist. Your new teeth will not move around or irritate your gums, and there will be no false palate that inhibits your sense of taste. Because they are solidly fixed-in, they will provide nearly the same chewing power as natural teeth, allowing you to eat all the foods you want and need for proper nutrition.

Removable snap-in dentures

Implant-Supported DenturesAs a more economical alternative to fixed-in replacement teeth, Dr. Anzalone can place a series of implants to securely retain a snap-in denture. Using special attachments on both the implants and the denture, the denture will be firmly held in place while snapped in. This type of denture can be removed by the patient at any time for cleaning or other care.

Your new dentures will not slip, will not need adhesives, will have no false upper palate, and will provide greatly increased chewing power in comparison to traditional dentures. You will also be spared the sores and discomfort that typically result from a denture rubbing against your dental arch. This retention system can also be used for a partial denture.

Implant-supported snap-on dentures are a major improvement on traditional dentures and are a very good option for many patients.

Stabilizing your current denture with implants

If you are currently wearing dentures and would like them to have increased stability and chewing power, Dr. Anzalone can place a series of implants for your denture to snap onto.

Dentures that are stabilized by implants will not move around in your mouth and are much more comfortable to wear. Your chewing power will be enhanced and you will be able to eat more foods than you could with a traditional denture.
